O Come All Ye Faithful

One of the things I really enjoy is when I know someone from college who is now really devout. I know several such people or in this case, several people who were couples in college and are now married. It’s really refreshing to hear them talk about god, about how great god is, about how blessed they are, etc, etc, when just X number of years ago they were in their dorm rooms fucking each other’s brains out. Funny how god didn’t get in their way of shacking up back then. Now all of a sudden they’ve seen the light. It’s even more enjoyable when you knew one half of the couple before they met what became the other half of the couple, and you know how much they used to band their previous girl or boyfriend before they met their future spouse and fellow devotee.
One such girl I know is now a devout Catholic, a full-fledged rhythm method of contraception bragging devout Catholic. My, how quickly kids grow up these days. Seems like just yesterday she was standing outside of her dorm bragging to her roommate about how she and her current boff always manage to climax together. It’s funny to visualize that now when she is talking about how Catholicism is the one true way.
Which brings me to the point: people change. This I can accept. Certainly I am not the same person I was in high school or college (I am of course, much more disillusioned than I was back then). What I have a hard time with is people who had their fun while it suited them, and now are free to declare that they have seen the light, and that everyone else ought to open their eyes to the one true way just like they have.
